As part of the “Geological Wednesdays” lecture series organized by the Geological Society of Peru, the president of La.Te. Andes, Roberto M. Hernández, will present the lecture “Understanding Time in Geosciences, Applied to Petroleum Systems in the Central Andes: Reducing Exploration Risk. – La Te Andes S.A.”, with the following summary:
“Throughout the Central Andes, different characteristics of the Sub-Andean or Inter-Andean exploratory models can be observed from Peru to Neuquén, Argentina. The strata incorporated into the deformation are distinct, and the pre-Andean tectonics overlain by Andean deformation are varied, as are the ages of the Andean deformation, ranging from the Lower-Upper Cretaceous to the Paleocene-Middle Miocene.
New knowledge recently gained through deep drilling in Argentina and Bolivia has raised questions about how much we knew and how much we did not know about the petroleum system, particularly regarding the spatial and temporal distribution of both pre-Andean and Andean tectonic processes, rock rheology, and the inapplicability of geometric models in light of the new data.
To address these issues, GEOMAP and CONICET decided to create a new system for transferring geoscience knowledge to the oil and gas industry, taking into account the demands and tight deadlines inherent in oil contracts. This process resulted in the creation of LATE ANDES S.A., supported by Argentina’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Productive Innovation.”
The conference will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at the Auditorium of the Geological Society of Peru, Miraflores, Peru.
Since 1924, the Geological Society of Peru, a long-standing and prestigious institution in the Ibero-American world, has sponsored numerous conferences on a wide range of topics, presented by both its members and other professionals, both domestic and international, thereby fulfilling its mission to disseminate knowledge of the earth sciences.
