The 20th Argentine Geological Congress was held from Monday, August 7, to Friday, August 11, 2017, at the Sheraton Hotel and the Catalinas Hotel in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán.

As part of the planned activities, LA.TE. ANDES set up a booth alongside Geomap S.A., where information was provided about the various projects and activities carried out by the laboratory, including those in the fields of thermochronology, Andino 3D (software), and the future CriAr (Cryogenic Magnetometer for Paleomagnetic Determinations).  During the conference and as part of the outreach efforts, numerous presentations were given by various members, summarizing topics ranging from technical aspects and applications of the methodology to new projects and examples of study areas:

Lecture 1: Thermochronology: Fission tracks and (U-Th)/He. Methodological aspects.

Lecture 2: Thermochronology: Time-temperature trajectory models based on thermochronological data.

Lecture 3: Thermochronology: Application in the hydrocarbon industry (Conventional and Unconventional)

Lecture 4: Thermochronology: Application in the evaluation of porphyry and epithermal systems.

Lecture 5: Structural modeling software: Andino 3D.

Lecture 6: Cryogenic Magnetometer: CriAr

Lecture 7: Assessment of organic matter maturation using Raman microspectrometry.

Lecture 8: New considerations regarding the deformation model in the Sierra de Aguaragüe.

During the event, LA.TE. ANDES staff answered all kinds of questions regarding the projects and the techniques used, and demonstrations were held on the Andino 3D software, its applications, and the available tools. Attendance was high, and in addition to general interest in the services offered, there was particular interest in the possibility of having samples processed in the laboratory by professionals and institutions from both the academic and private sectors.

To complement the information presented at the booth, two papers were presented at the Geochronology Symposium: one regarding LA.TE. ANDES as a Center for Technological Development and Innovation in South America, and another on a case study of thermochronology developed at the Center in a strategic area of hydrocarbon interest in the Sub-Andean region of Bolivia. Both presentations were led by Geologist Juan Ignacio Hernández. In addition, Geologist Roberto Hernández gave a presentation titled: “Geoscience Knowledge Applied to Petroleum Systems in the Central Andes. Reducing Exploration Risk. La.Te. Andes S.A.” and participated in a roundtable discussion focused on research.
