On Thursday, April 12, at 11:30 a.m., at the headquarters of La. Te. Andes S.A. in Vaqueros, Salta, a contract was signed with the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion (ANPCyT-FONTAR) to expand Cron.Ar.: a project aimed at generating weather data for industry and science.
The signing took place between Dr. Marina Frunzi, representative of the National Ministry of Science, Technology, and Productive Innovation, and the President of the R&D Productive Technology Center, La. Te. Andes S.A., Roberto Hernández.
The presentation and signing of the agreement were attended by local authorities from Vaqueros: the town’s mayor, Mr. Daniel Moreno; municipal council members Tane Correa Da Souza, Noemí Quinteros, and Sergio Ávalos; and executives and researchers from La. Te. Andes and Geomap.
The La. Te. Andes S.A. Productive Technology Center, located in the town of Vaqueros, Salta, is one of the most ambitious projects to emerge from Argentine science in recent years. “Today in Argentina, from Salta, we have a unique center for applied industrial sciences that extends throughout South America,” stated Mr. Hernández.
“Unlike many countries, which send samples separately for analysis to various laboratories and research centers around the world, we are now one of only 11 countries in the world with research reactors to have a comprehensive R&D Productive Technology Center dedicated to geothermocronology.”
The main objective is to generate as much information as possible—currently almost nonexistent—regarding the time and temperature that affected geological processes in the Central Andes. This will allow for a more precise determination of the existence of hydrocarbons by establishing the temporal relationship between their generation and the formation of their “commercial trap,” thereby drastically reducing exploration risks.
In his presentation, the President of Te. Andes emphasized that “This project is a brilliant idea from the Ministry of Science and Technology that we were able to implement and execute”. He thanked the Agency for the Promotion of Science and Technology and all the people who provided their support to achieve these objectives.
