Dr. Natalia Sánchez of the INGEOSUR Institute at CONICET, National University of the South – Bahía Blanca, completed an internship at the La. Te. Andes Technology Development Center in March 2018, with the aim of further refining her skills in the technique of fission track analysis in apatites, as well as exchanging knowledge with the professionals in our laboratory.

One of the objectives of her stay was to measure 14 samples and interpret the data. Among the activities carried out by our colleague was a presentation titled: Thermochronology of the Chos Malal Folded and Sheared Belt, in which she presented previously conducted studies.

The research tasks carried out are part of an IDEA project by INGEOSUR-CONICET, one of the objectives of which is to gain knowledge about the timing of deformation, as well as to quantify shortening rates associated with the contraction events that occurred.

Dr. Natalia Sánchez’s internship is part of La. Te. Andes’ internal activity plan to foster exchange between our laboratory and other institutions, aimed at training personnel and collaborating on applied research in various basins across our country with a focus on hydrocarbon resources.

Another objective of Dr. Sánchez’s visit is to promote the Laboratory’s engagement with the scientific community and to demonstrate that it is feasible and highly enriching to work in a complementary manner on topics of scientific and economic importance.
