We are proud to announce that Roberto Mario Hernández, geologist and president of LA.TE. ANDES S.A.* and GEOMAP S.A.**, has been honored with the Robert R. Berg Outstanding Research Award by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG). This award, one of the most prestigious in the field of petroleum geosciences, recognizes outstanding achievements in scientific research applied to the understanding and development of petroleum systems worldwide.
The AAPG highlighted his fundamental contributions to the study and modeling of deformation in the Central Andes, the integrated conception of the Devonian petroleum system in this region, and the development of Andino 3D, a structural modeling tool that incorporates thermochronological data. The award will be presented during the IMAGE ’25 conference in Houston this coming August.
This recognition transcends individual merit. Just as Robert R. Berg knew how to integrate science, teaching, and applied vision to transform the understanding of petroleum systems, this recognition also highlights the value of knowledge built through collaboration: with multidisciplinary teams, a long-term vision, and a commitment to the region. For us, this award also reaffirms something essential: that from Salta, with local teams dedicated to applied science, we can generate knowledge of the highest caliber with international impact.
This achievement belongs to all of us. Because the advances we make as a scientific and technical community would not be possible without collective effort, synergy between projects, and a shared drive to improve what we do and how we do it. Congratulations, Roberto. And thank you to everyone who, from different places, has been and continues to be part of this journey.
The official announcement was published by the AAPG in June 2025. It can be viewed (login required) at AAPG Honors and Awards 2026.
