Metamorphism is the process by which a rock changes its mineralogical composition, texture, or structure due to increases in temperature, pressure, and fluid circulation without completely melting.
The original rock is transformed into a new rock called a metamorphic rock.
The existing minerals become unstable under the new physical and chemical conditions, so they recrystallize, change size, form new minerals, and align themselves according to tectonic stresses.
