Continental evolution is the set of geological processes through which continents form, grow, change, and reorganize over geological time.
It includes changes in the size of continents; the position of continental masses; the composition of the crust; and the relief and tectonic structures.
How Continents Evolve
Continents are not fixed structures. Over billions of years, they fragment, collide, deform, grow through magmatism, and undergo erosion and exhumation.
