Hernández went on to say that this public-private partnership would have been unthinkable just a few years ago and that, with the launch of this project, “we will be able to discover new hydrocarbons under better conditions and with lower risk.” The geologist also explained that the geothermochronology technique “helps us understand at what temperature organic matter ‘cooks,’ for how long, and when it formed, which will allow us to determine whether it is gas or oil.”

The LaTe Andes Geochronology Development Center will serve as a productive hub for the immediate application of scientific studies through the analysis of samples for purposes applicable to the hydrocarbon industry and mineral deposits. The results obtained will help reduce exploration risk by determining the maximum temperatures reached by the organic matter present in source rocks, the ages of generation, the chronology of structural trap development in conventional targets, and the sites of burial, generation, and accumulation of hydrocarbons in unconventional targets. Furthermore, the interpretive analysis of the results will contribute to understanding the evolutionary history of mountain ranges and the cycles of exhumation and burial, among other implications.

The facility to be constructed will cover an area of 500 square meters and will house 16 new workrooms, including six sample preparation rooms, two trace measurement rooms, two storage rooms, one modeling room, one research room, one fellowship room, one seminar room, and two rooms for the administration and management unit.

The initiative will require a total investment of $27,848,492, consisting of approximately $20,000,000 in non-reimbursable grants from the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion and $7,848,493 in matching funds.

It is worth noting that the CEN-TEC program operates on a rolling basis, so there is no deadline for submitting projects. Through this program, it is possible to apply for non-reimbursable grants ranging from a minimum of $6,000,000 to a maximum of $20,000,000 to finance up to 80% of the total cost of each initiative. Within the project selection process, priority is given to proposals that involve new capabilities in regions with relatively lower development and are aligned with the priorities set forth in the “National Plan for Science, Technology, and Innovation – Innovative Argentina 2020.”

The CEN-TEC call for proposals was designed by the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion in collaboration with the Secretariat for Planning and Policies on Science, Technology, and Productive Innovation, both of which fall under the Ministry of Science.

In addition, during the afternoon, Engineer Facundo Lagunas gave a presentation on the economic and financial instruments made available by FONTAR to improve the competitiveness of Argentine small and medium-sized enterprises through the financing of projects involving significant efforts in innovation and technological modernization. The event took place at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the province of Salta and was attended by professionals, businesspeople, consultants, entrepreneurs, representatives from the academic sector, and members of the general public interested in the topic.

source: Ministry of Science, Technology, and Productive Innovation

Officials from the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion visited the province of Salta and announced the launch of the LaTe Andes project.
